Ruth Crawford  Ruth Crawford (Left) won the 2015 Senior Volunteer Awards for her outstanding contribution to Hockey and Cycling.

Senior Volunteers 2015

Rebecca Barker (Bluefins)

As Chair of Basingstoke Bluefins, Rebecca has worked an inordinate number of hours working on behalf of the club. This year’s highlights include turning the club accounts from an £8k deficit to a £33k surplus. She gives up huge amounts of her time and commitment and has joined a network of local swim clubs with the intention of sharing best practice. The administration of Bluefins is a role model to other clubs and the procedures and policies put in place will ensure a smooth transition when senior volunteers step down from their role.

Sharon Bryan (Hatch Warren Runners)

As part of Hatch Warren Runners, Sharon is the Race Director who masterminded a Runners World 100% rated event over a period of 10 months. She is also a Visibly Impaired Runners Guide and is part of a team who guided Hatch Warren Runners first blind runner to complete the Great South Run. Sharon is Coach and Club Night Leader for the Club, and also found time to run the Brighton Marathon in 2016.

Ruth DeSouza (Basingstoke Wolverines – Cheerleading)

Ruth is a true Ambassador for the Club. She was integral in sourcing funding for low income families and has helped gain funding for uniforms and much needed equipment.   She is responsible for all invoicing, fee collections and payment of rent and supplies, along with organising social club events and all fundraising activities.

Linda Heath (Breeze Network Basingstoke - Cycling)

Linda is a core ride leader for her club and undertakes her duties with professionalism and is an excellent role model to all. She also undertakes bike workshops, marshalling and other club involvement, changing perceptions and behaviours by her own example.   She has continued with her own rider development, trying BMX and velodrome cycling, undertaking a Rider Development session, keeping her First Aid qualifications up to date, and taking her Level 2 Ride Leader qualification.

Sharron Pullen (Basingstoke Wolverines – Cheerleading)

Sharron works endlessly to ensure the club works efficiently and effectively. She drives the programme and is a key player to the clubs success; communicating training times and liaising with parents and coaches. As well as actively recruiting new members, Sharron also enters the club into competitions which she also organises and attends. She is constantly striving to raise the focus and reputation of the club and is also a Trustee.

Mark Sadler (Swimming (Bluefins)

Marks heads up the Bluefins County Competition Team and runs the technical side of club competitions both county and regional wide. His commitment, enthusiasm and professionalism in providing a technical service for the running of swimming competitions has ensured that Basingstoke Bluefins maintains its reputation as a club that runs professional, well organised competitions for swimmers both in this area and beyond.

Tracey Taylor (Running)

Tracey successfully launched Basingstoke junior parkrun on 11 September with 137 children participating and 130 participating each week. She raised the necessary funding in order to start parkrun by obtaining sponsorship and he volunteers enthusiastically each week, encouraging participation and making it fun. Along with recruiting and encouraging volunteers. Tracey also visits schools where she encourages young people to participate at junior parkrun regularly and develop an interest in running.

Senior Officials 2016

Sian Reilly (Bluewave Taekwondo)

Sian regular attends competitions in the UK as a Class 2 Centre Referee and was also a referee at the Dutch Masters Competition in Rotterdam, along with being active in all competitions that were selection events for officials for the British Tarkwondo Kyorugi National Championships. She continued her own personal development in regular classes, seminars and competitions as well as assisting coaches in Taekwondo classes.

Zoe Sadler (Swimming)

In 2016 Zoe worked really hard to achieve her swimming judge qualifications, qualifying as a Judge Level 1 in February and a Judge Level 2 in July. She has travelled all over the South of England gaining experience and working at swim galas on a voluntary basis to achieve these qualifications and now mentors other trainee judges. Zoe is always willing to travel to galas, even when her club is not competing, as there is often a shortage of officials. She is a highly valued member of Basingstoke Bluefins and is always willing to support the Club at events.
